If no weapon formed against us can prosper, why do we feel so defeated sometimes?

The Bible tells us that no weapon formed against us can prosper. While that's a very encouraging promise, it's a fact that many of us still feel like the weapons formed against us are succeeding. We feel defeated.

Why is that?

In this article we will take a look at how we can feel defeated even when God has assured us of His victory.

God's very words

God Himself promised this very famous promise to us. We read it in Isaiah 54:16-17.

"Behold, I have created the blacksmith who blows the coals in the fire, who brings forth an instrument for his work; And I have created the spoiler to destroy. No weapon formed against you shall prosper, and every tongue which rises against you in judgment you shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is from Me," says the Lord."

God Himself promised that no weapon formed against us can ever succeed. Why is this? It's because He Himself created the ones who form the weapons against us. He also created the ones who attempt to harm us.

And because He created them, He knows that they cannot win against us. He has declared that they cannot win over us, and that no weapon the enemy can ever create will be able to fully succeed against us - unless we cave in.

To help us understand that, we can think of a car inventor. A car's inventor knows the capabilities and limitations of the car he invented. He knows what it can and cannot do.

With this logic in mind, we should understand that God knows what the enemy can and cannot do. He said that with His grace over us, no weapon formed against us can ever win.

But why do we feel defeated even after God has promised this? It's because we don't believe in Him and His words.

Blaming the culprit

We often tend to blame the wrong person whenever something wrong happens and we feel defeated.

We blame the enemy for attacking us and harassing us. We blame other people for not helping us, even just praying for us. We even blame God, saying, "why did You allow this to happen, God?"

What we don't blame is ourselves.

God already assured us that since He was the One who created the ones who will form weapons against us, these weapons will not prosper. All we need to do is to believe in Him and obey Him.

In closing

Do we really believe God? If we do, then we won't feel defeated. He has won the victory once and for all - and we are more than conquerors in Him.
