Popular mobile device repair site iFixit has started offering Apple battery replacement kits for $29 or less. The price depends on the phone model, and can go as low as $24.99 for old models like the iPhone 4S.

iFixit's decision came with the fact that Apple itself has lowered the price for their battery replacement kits to $29, from the usual price of $39 to $49.

Apple's price drop came about because of the recent outrage when consumers found out that the company has been deliberately slowing down phones. The company claimed that they have been slowing down devices to preserve electrical components. Old batteries fail to provide sufficient power for the processors which cause random shutdowns.

iFixit's replacement kits comes with a battery and all the tools one needs to open their Apple phone and replace the battery. Their kits also sell for a lower price than Apple's offers, and comes with a one-year warranty.

However, the advantage of Apple kits is that certified technicians can repair the phone and replace the batteries. With iFixit's kit, it will be just the consumer who will be doing the work.

The repair site claims that their batteries are certified brand new, with no cycles on it and is on 95% of its total capacity. iFixit advises consumers to calibrate fresh batteries by draining them to 10% capacity before recharging.

Aside from the battery, the kit also includes other tools like the Kit Bit Driver, spudger, and the "iFixit Opening Tool."

iFixit is known for its repair guides. They are the go-to site for consumers who want to try fixing not only Apple devices, but other brands as well. Their most popular feature is the "repairability score" they give out to devices. This score is a measure of how easy or hard it is for consumers to repair a certain device model by themselves.
