Apple's upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference 2016 is just around the corner and iMac fans are wondering if they will see an upgraded version of their beloved iMac desktop even if the latest model is less than 12 months old. Sadly, there is a very slim chance it will happen.

The last iMac was released last October, and Apple already installed Intel's Skylake processors on its models, offering up to 4.0 GHz quad-core i7 chips in some models. The smaller models went to have an upgrade on their display with the Retina feature. The company skipped the Broadwell generation altogether and went directly to its sixth-gen version processors, the Haswell chips.

Additionally, the 2015 models come with Thunderbolt 2, USB 3, and Gigabit Ethernet ports, which are already some of the top technologies. OS X El Capitan and up to 3TB of Fusion Drives (high-performance storage drives which are a blend of flash and traditional hard drive) or 1TB of SSD storage options were made available.

GameNGuide reported that iMac 2016 may include the upcoming Kaby Lake processor, which still uses the 14nm manufacturing processor similar to Skylake, but with additional features added such as native support for USB 3.1, Thunderbolt 3 and an improved performance in 3D graphics and 4K video playback. DisplayPort 1.3 is not supported though. But the volume production for the Kaby Lake processor is not expected until late this quarter, Motley Fool added.

Other reports pointed out there is also a possibility that Apple may skip a Kaby Lake upgrade and wait for another year and load it up with the Cannonlake chip, which will be using the more accurate and advanced 10nm fabrication process.

WWDC 2016 is slated to happen from June 13 until June 17 at the Moscone West Convention Center in San Francisco, California.
