"The Incredibles" ended with the Parrs embracing their powers as they work as a team to overcome the bad guys. While filmmaker Brad Bird has kept mum about plot details for the upcoming sequel, fans are hoping that they'll get to see more of the family working together to save the world. With the rumored 10-year time jump, however, it's possible that the Parr children — Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack — may have other things to deal with aside from chasing after villains.

Aside from the time jump, there have been many speculations about the new film. But Bird hinted that the sequel could have more of a connection with the original story. Speaking to ComingSoon.net, the filmmaker said that there were a few things that he wanted to add that didn't make it to the first film — he had to give them up to make way for some of the things that mattered in the movie.

"So there were a pile of ideas left over from 'The Incredibles,' but it's not a big thing," he said. "There were little scenes and things that I was interested in."

For the second film, Bird said, "I wanted to come up with sort of an over-arching idea that connected to the first film that went somewhere different. That's the one that took a little more time."

Bird told Collider earlier this month that he has written about three-quarters of the script and that he got a lot of people who worked on the first film back on board for the next installment.

As to why he waited 11 years to work on the sequel, Bird said that he didn't think that he could have made the sequel right away, nor did he want to. He said that he knows of some directors who would make a sequel as soon as they finish a movie, but with regard to filmmaking, he said that he would always want to work on something else and then come back to making a sequel for any movie, unless it was something like "Lord of The Rings" which was designed to have a set amount of time between films.

"I always want to break things up with something else," he told ComingSoon.

As for the film's premiere, fans will have to wait a little more. Bird told Collider that the team behind the movie originally planned to release it after "Cars 3." Cinemablend reports that Pixar has a claim for the weekend of June 15, 2018, and the website speculates that it's possible that the date will see the release of "The Incredibles 2."
