Before the season began, the Indiana Pacers were expected to contend with a new system following the loss of significant big men. Now, it looks like the small ball kind of game is not working as they find themselves in a 0–3 hole to begin the season. 

The Pacers dropped their games against the Toronto Raptors (106–99), Memphis Grizzlies (112–103), and the most recent facing the Utah Jazz (97–76) last Saturday. 

In their loss to Utah, leading the way was point guard George Hill who had 17 points, six rebounds, one assist, and two steals. 

Following him was former All-Star forward Paul George who tallied 16 points, three rebounds, one assist, and one steal. 

In all of Indiana's games this season, George played the number four spot for the team to fully play the small ball kind of game. 

Pacers president Larry Bird was the one who wanted Indiana to play with the new system, hence parting ways with veteran forward David West and former All-Star center Roy Hibbert during the offseason. 

Bird then said that George will be playing at the power forward position, which the latter lightly resented in the offseason. 

But now, as George and the Pacers continue their campaign with the small ball game, it seems like it will take time for them to get used to the new system and find their groove to win games. 

In a report by the Associated Press, Pacers head coach Frank Vogel said about their team, "'Playoff teams are raising their level and we're not matching it."

The Pacers will need to get their act together as for their next game, which will be played this Tuesday, they will take on the Detroit Pistons at The Palace of Auburn Hills. 

Detroit is currently undefeated this season at 3–0 with their most recent win a 98–94 overtime thriller against the Chicago Bulls.
