Six-year guard Toney Douglas will have the chance to be part of the Indiana Pacers after he was signed to a partially guaranteed contract last Monday, according to the team's website, although no information about the deal was officially released.

But Eric Pincus of the Los Angeles Times tweeted, "Indiana Pacers have given Toney Douglas a $600k guarantee on his $1.2 mil minimum contract @BBallInsiders ($275k more if there for 1st game)."

Douglas was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round of the 2009 National Basketball Association (NBA) Draft but was traded to the New York Knicks on draft night.

He played three seasons with the Knicks before being part of a number of trades that sent him to the Houston Rockets, Sacramento Kings, Golden State Warriors, Miami Heat, and the New Orleans Pelicans who waived him last July.

Douglas' arrival can help the Pacers in their plan of playing in a much faster pace next season.

In accomplishing that goal, Indiana traded former All-Star center Roy Hibbert to the Los Angeles Lakers and let forward David West sign with the San Antonio Spurs in free agency.

The versatility of Douglas, especially his defensive game, can be one of the keys to the success of the faster scheme the Pacers look to use next season.

"I can defend and I can shoot and score. We haven't gotten in to details of me being here, but I know I'm here for a reason. Once training camp starts I'll show people what I can do," Douglas told reporters about the opportunity given to him by the Pacers.

In his seven years in the NBA, Douglas averaged 7.6 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists per game.

Along with his NBA experience, Douglas also played last year in China for the Jiangsu Dragons of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) and he said it was a great experience.
