A major roadblock is faced by the Indianapolis Colts with the 2015 National Football League (NFL) regular season about to end, as quarterback Charlie Whitehurst was placed on season-ending injured reserve (IR) because of a hamstring strain. 

According to ESPN, Whitehurst was injured in last Sunday's 18–12 win over the Miami Dolphins.

Playing his first season with the Colts, Whitehurst has been a backup and in four games played completed 16-of-32 passes for 150 yards, also throwing an interception. 

The loss of Whitehurst is tough for Indianapolis as ESPN added in its report that current starting quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is uncertain this Sunday versus the Tennessee Titans because of a shoulder injury also sustained against the Dolphins. 

Hasselbeck took over the starting job for Indianapolis when original starter, franchise quarterback Andrew Luck, started to miss games due to kidney and abdomen injuries. 

Since Hasselbeck is hurt and Luck returning this Sunday seems to be an impossibility, the Colts signed quarterbacks Josh Freeman and Ryan Lindley, according to Yahoo Sports. 

The report added that despite adding Freeman and Lindley, none of them are expected to start versus the Titans as that role is likely to be given to fourth string quarterback Stephen Morris. 

The Colts, without Luck, Hasselbeck, and Whitehurst, only had Morris as their healthy quarterback before adding the two new passers in their roster. 

Morris was an undrafted player in 2014 and had stops with the Jacksonville Jaguars and the Philadelphia Eagles, before being part of Indianapolis' active roster. 

The loss of their veteran passers is a setback for the Colts who are aiming to tie the Houston Texans for the top spot in the American Football Conference (AFC) South to keep their playoff hopes alive. 

Houston is leading the division with an 8–7 record while the Colts are on the second spot with a 7–8 record.
