According to the Australian, most of the prestigious schools here could lose the ownership of their crests, mottos, even their school name.
Already, Sydney private school Cranbrook is engaged in a court battle with a schoolwear retailer over the ownership of the school's brands on clothings.
Even before the court ruling is known, some high-profile Catholic schools have already taken steps to protect their trademark.
The Marist Brothers' St Joseph's College, in Sydney's Hunters Hill, have registered it's name, crest and motto 'Strive for Better Things'. Likewise, Christian Brothers' St Joseph's College in the Brisbane suburb of Nudgee, is registering its trademark.
These are, but a few who have already acted in precaution and there will be more to follow.
