Fans may have to thank a show's bad performance for something good that could potentially happen in the future.

A few days ago, news broke out that FOX is giving up on its hold on the X-Men franchise and would be selling it back to Marvel. It may be remembered that the comics giant was forced to sell off the film rights to a lot of their creations when they were facing bankruptcy issues. Over the years, they have managed to reacquire them when they built the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With "Inhumans" facing dismal reception, it seems that Marvel is trying to get the rights of its X-Men characters from FOX.

Fans have been hoping that the two studious would work together in bringing mutants back to life. Over the years, reports of sales talks going on about between FOX and Marvel had been coming out, but discussions always got stalled, forcing everyone to simply wait for what would happen next.

While on the surface, it may seem that there's no connection between the X-Men and the Inhumans, Marvel Cinematic Universe's unexpected focus on the Inhumans, making them the stand-in in their shared movie universe when they could not get FOX to give up rights to the X-Men, seemed like a logical idea at the time. Both group of mutants share the same story of being outcasts for being different and the potential to tell a different story with a different set of characters.

In all likelihood, if Marvel had plans to make Inhumans the tie that binds its cinematic and television universe, it looks like it's pretty much out of the window. With FOX coming out with a string of X-Men movies with "New Mutants," "Deadpool 2," and "Dark Phoenix," it seems that Marvel might have to stick it out with the Inhumans for a while.
