Apart from the game-changing Gear System coming to "Injustice 2," fans can also expect new environments in the fighting game sequel.

NetherRealms Studios marketing head Brian Goodman revealed this in an interview with Game Reactor, although he kept his cards close to his chest regarding the details about the new "Injustice 2" upgrades.

"We will have new environments; we'll be releasing them over time," Goodman teased. "We have several new ones down the line and we're excited to show these to you in the future," he went on to say.

It is no surprise that new environments will be added to the game, seeing that "Injustice 2" will feature a bunch of new characters that gamers have not seen in "Injustice: Gods Among Us."

Needless to say, Metropolis, Atlantis, and Gotham City will be included in the sequel, although they will have updated designs as well as "new interactibles" and "different design elements" to keep them fresh.

There will be a whole host of new characters set to be announced in the coming month, and the new environments could be based on these characters.

The likes of Starfire, Red Hood, John Constantine, and even Swamp Thing are some of the characters being considered for "Injustice 2." This is based on NetherRealms creative director Ed Boon's Twitter polls, where he asked fans to vote the character they want to see in the sequel.

These characters come with the potential of coming with new environments, which could by why Goodman played coy with regards to the new locations in "Injustice 2."

He did say that there will be tons of environmental interaction in the game, which means that players will be able to use items in the background while fighting.

Goodman also teased that "Injustice 2" will see multi-stage environments, which will allow players to transition in between the locations during the fight.

In terms of the release date, Goodman said that the game will be released at some point in 2017, but he said that it should arrive "sooner than you know." "We're diligently working on all aspects of the game right now," Goodman said.
