According to NetherRealm Studios, fans have already expected expansion for the "Injustice 2" sequel, and the developer assures that the content will come as massive surprises as the game will push for more "aggressive" DLC releases.

In a recent interview with IGN, Ed Boon, creative director at NetherRealm Studios, promises fans that expansion content will also come out as post-launch additions to "Injustice 2," much like what the developer has done with the predecessor.

Boon states, "With DLC characters, we've had four with Mortal Kombat, six with Injustice, eight with Mortal Kombat X, and with Injustice 2 we plan on continuing that pattern."

The creative director adds that expansion content for "Injustice 2" will "certainly be more aggressive than we've been in the past." However, it is unclear on how "aggressive" the DLC releases will be, if it will come as more expansion packs, or if the DLC packs will be scheduled to release right on top of the last.

Additional expansion content is just one of the many changes that NetherRealm Studios is planning for "Injustice 2." When announced earlier this month, it was revealed that instead of a straight-up role-playing and fighting title, the upcoming sequel will have player-level and character-level developments, as the new game will introduce loot drops and a new gear system that will have status and character effects. Boon alluded to the new system, "Ideally to me the whole purpose of this feature is customization, longevity and ongoing molding of your character so to speak."

The creative director also hinted that microtransactions may also be introduced in the game for players who want to level up fast and are willing to pay to unlock new gear sets.

"Injustice 2" doesn't have a specific release date yet, though NetherRealm Studios has stated that the company is gunning for a 2017 release. The new sequel will be released for the Xbox One and PlayStation 4.
