Inquiry into police shooting in Kent
LONDON - The police watchdog has opened an inquiry into the fatal shooting of a man by police at a village near Sevenoaks.
Officers had been called to Stansted in Kent early on Saturday after reports that a man was armed with a gun.
A spokesman for the Independent Police Complaints Commission said the dead man had yet to be formally identified.
However, the man was not believed to be from the area or to have had a weapons licence.
The watchdog said a weapon had been recovered from the scene.
"We will be looking at why the police were called and what happened when they deployed officers," said IPCC Commissioner David Petch.
It is the second fatal police shooting in the area this year.
An IPCC inquiry is continuing into the death of shop worker Ann Sanderson, 37, who was shot dead by police in a Sevenoaks car park in June.
