International Aid to Set Up Medical Centre in Aceh, Indonesia

A US-based Christian relief and development agency will be establishing a Medical Equipment Service Centre in Indonesia’s Aceh Province upon the request of the Ministry of Health.

According to International Aid (I-A), the centre will directly impact the four million people of Aceh Province affected by last year’s devastating quake-tsunami disaster that ravaged coastal regions of 12 nations in southern Asia and East Africa and left as many as 300,000 people dead. Inauguration of the MESC is planned for later this month.

"The Medical Equipment Service Centre (MESC) will be the first of its kind in the country, making it a showcase model to be used nationally by the Ministry of Health," I-A reported, according to Mission Network News (MNN).

"The team hopes to see improved delivery of local health services, and an increased hospital capacity," the organisation added. "They will also work on improving cost-effectiveness of medical equipment operations."

According to I-A, the plan is that the MESC will also serve as the location for biomedical equipment maintenance on portable equipment for all health facilities in the province that do not have in-house repair and maintenance capabilities.

Hospitals and health facilities in Aceh Province will also benefit from future provision of medical supplies and equipment from International Aid and medical equipment mentoring, as they learn to repair and maintain their own equipment, MNN reported.

For over 23 years, International Aid has provided assistance and medical support to missionaries worldwide, and partnered with churches throughout the United States to reach some of the most desperate countries devastated by war, famine and drought.

Founded as an agency committed to supporting missionaries, International Aid serves a global network of mission hospitals, clinics, orphanages and churches across the globe. Through its missionary assistance, medical support, church-based compassion ministries and relief and development services, International Aid reaches out those in need regardless of nationality, ethnicity or creed.

As a distinctly Christian organisation, International Aid mobilises caring people, churches, organisations and businesses to extend Christ’s love and mercy to those who suffer.
