iOS 7.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 5s iPhone 5, iPhone 4S unlikely

iOS 7.1

A video showing a jailbroken iOS 7.1.1 was leaked last month, but the jailbreak was only compatible with older devices such as the iPhone 4, 4th generation iPod and first generation iPad.

Until now, there has been no word of a jailbreak for newer devices, such as the iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and iPad Air.

Newer devices are harder to jailbreak due to additional security features pre-installed by Apple and developers are not focusing on the iOS 7.1 jailbreaks for these devices, as they are focusing on iOS 8, rumored to release later this summer at the WWDC.

Another iOS 7.1.1 jailbreak called Geeksn0w, which launched Friday, April 25, is now available for iPhone 4 users.

According to a report by IBT, Geeksn0w is only a semi-tethered jailbreak, which requires a device to be connected to a computer to bring it back to a jailbroken condition after restarting it. The device can be returned to a non-jailbroken state if your computer does not have the Geeksnow software installed.

The new GeeksnOw jailbreak 7.1.1 tool supports the following models running iOS 7.1.1: iPhone 4 GSM (AT&T and global), iPhone 4 GSM Revision A, iphone 4 CDMA (Verizon).

Apple released the official iOS 7.1.1 software update to the public last week, but users must beware that installing the new software will make you lose your jailbreak for your iDevices.

The iOS 7.1.1 update brings fixes to a small number of bugs reported on the iOS 7.1 software.
