One of the major complaints of Apple device users who downloaded the latest iOS 8 upgrade is the short battery life.

Although the Cupertino tech giant claims that the newest iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus models are equipped with longer battery life compared to its predecessors, many users are still whining about the iOS 8's capability to gobble up power even if the device is rarely used. This is why users are constantly trying to find ways to address battery drain issues.

Battery issues, of course, cannot be fixed permanently unless the manufacturer come up with the proper technology to address the problem.  Still, some simple tips and tricks can help users get the most out of the battery charge in their Apple gadgets.

One of the simplest tricks in prolonging battery life is to adjust the screen brightness of the device. Apple provides auto-brightness and ambient light sensors that automatically adjust the screen's light, depending on the light condition in the surroundings.

To be able to use this feature, users should go to their device's Settings, then click the Brightness & Wallpaper option, then select the Adjust the Auto-Brightness slider to the "on" position. If the user wants to dim the device permanently, they can instead adjust the brightness slider to the dimmest setting.

Another battery saving option is to turn off animations. There are two different sources of animation in iOS 8, and they take up a lot of battery percentage in the gadget. It is advised to turn these off to save the battery.

The Background Motion animation can be turned off by going to the Settings tab, then choose General, then click on Accessibility, choose Reduce Motion, then turn the Adjust the Reduce Motion slider to the "on" position.

To turn off the Dynamic Backgrounds animation, users should avoid selecting wallpapers that are desgined with moving pictures.

Apple users can also do a Power Cycle once a month to save battery. This can be done by completely draining the battery of the device until it can not be turned on, then fully charge it after.

Other simple tricks include using headphones instead of the device's speaker for music and audio, turning off extra sounds like keyboard tones, as well as turning off Bluetooth and Wi-Fi when not in use.
