Fans have been expecting the new iteration of the iPad Air series this year. However, it seems that the slate will be revealed in March 2017.

According to The Bitbag, it has been almost a year since rumors of an iPad Air 3 surfaced, but the Cupertino-based company has yet to come out with hints on the rumored slate. Only the iPhone 7, Apple Watch 2 and new MacBook models are being suggested to be coming out this year.

Meanwhile, the recent Apple releases for its tablet lineup also suggest that the iPad Air 3 is in danger of being scrapped.

Previous rumors on the iPad Air 3 said it will be released late last year. However, Apple may have juggled the scheduled releases a bit, since the November release saw the original iPad Pro being out on the market.

Instead of the new iPad Air, Apple unveiled another iPad Pro model at its March launch event. The iPad Pro 2016, while having the same specs as the original, is a scaled-down version, with a 9.7-inch display. This led to rumors that Apple may already be scrapping the iPad Air lineup, with the new iPad Pro taking its place. Reportedly, Apple is streamlining its tablet segment, with the current-gen iPad Air 2 being listed as the entry-level model. Meanwhile, the new iPad Pro will be the higher model, while the original 12.9-inch iteration is its top-tier slate.

Apple has yet to confirm if it will discontinue the Apple Air lineup, although some observers are saying that the company will not do so anytime soon. The target audiences for both lineups are markets apart – the iPad Pro is being marketed as a hybrid, professional-level solution, while the iPad Air series is for casual use.
