There has been no confirmation when Apple will release the iPad Air 3 but it is expected to debut in 2017. Aside from being waterproof, the device also features a slimmer body.

According to Neurogadget, Apple might be releasing the iPad Air 3 at a keynote event on March 2017 since the device was not presented at the "Hello Again" keynote event held this October.

The iPad Air 3 is expected to debut alongside with the iPad Pro 2 lineup and it will allegedly be the last of the Air lineup due to Apple's new iPad Pro series.

The upcoming iPad Air is expected to have a slimmer body that is only 5mm thick, which will also be waterproof and resistant to dust. The body will be made of 7000-series aluminum, which will be sturdier and resistant. It will also have an 8MP rear camera and a 2.1 MP front camera, with an A9X Apple chipset supporting up to 4 GB of RAM.

The screen of the iPad Air 3 will allegedly measure 9.7 inches, yet it will only be able to support a 4K resolution.

There are speculations that the iPad Air 3 might launch with a lower price than the Air 2, which is currently priced at $399 for the 32 GB variant and $499 for the 128 GB variant.

Meanwhile, there is a possibility that the iPad Air 3 might not be happening, according to Engadget. The possible reason for the discontinuation the iPad Air series is the launch of the iPad Pro lineup.

The latest release of an iPad Air – the iPad Air 2 – was in 2014 while the iPad Pro was launched in September 2015 with no news of an iPad Air 3.

While the previous iPad Airs still receive software updates, their A8 processors are a bit outdated compared to the iPad Pro's A9x processors. The A9x processors are described as desktop chips that provide optimum performance on a tablet.

There has been no confirmation when the iPad Air 3 will be released, but it is anticipated to launch in 2017.
