The iPad Air 3 is widely speculated to be cancelled given that Apple has not released any information regarding it since the iPad Air 2 was released back in 2014. According to Fab Newz, it is more likely that Apple will not release the iPad Air 3 this September and instead push it back to March 2017.

According to the report, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated Apple is planning on launching a low-cost iPad in 2017 and this tablet will come with the A9X processor. It is noted that existing high-end devices will come with the more powerful but more expensive A10X chip.

Bloomberg also reports that as far as the iPad lineup goes Apple is only interested in making upgrades for the iPad Pro series, implementing a few upgrades for its software and for the Apple Pencil. It is noted that the iPad Air 3 was not mentioned at all, hinting that Apple may indeed have cancelled the series or has no plans of releasing the iPad Air 3 until later on.

Fab Newz further reveals that the iPad Air 3 may come in three variants: a 64 GB version, 128 GB version and a 256 GB version. The device is also stated to feature a 9.7-inch display and may come with new features such as an improved fingerprint scanner, 3D Touch and iOS 10.

Apple is rumored to launch several new devices this Sept. 7, including the iPhone 7 and new MacBook products. The Apple Watch 2 and an improved lineup of the iPad Pro are also expected but not confirmed. All of the devices will be running on iOS 10 except for the Watch 2 which will run on an improved Watch OS.

It is important to note that Apple has not made any official announcements regarding the iPad Air 3, whether it has been cancelled or if it is still going to release this September or in 2017. As such any information regarding the device should still be taken as speculation.
