The iPad Pro 2 will reportedly pack some serious horsepower, and it's all thanks to the A10X processor, which will be the force under its hood.

Apple appears to be hard at work in perfecting the processor. In fact, the Cupertino-based company started things up early in putting the chipset together.

A job description of an Apple engineer (spotted by The Motley Fool) states that the processor going inside the iPad Pro 2 "exceeded power and performance goals while simultaneously adopting new process technology and design tools."

The "new process technology" being referred to is believed to be the 10-nanometer architecture, which should make for a thinner but a more powerful iPad Pro 2.

Apple's supplier Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) will be the sole supplier of the iPhone maker for the new and improved processor going into the iPad Pro 2.

The A10X processor will reportedly be used on the two upcoming versions of the iPad Pro 2, as detailed, via Macrumors, by trusted KGI Securities analyst Ming Chi-Kuo.

One is the 12.9-inch version, which is the same size as the first one from last year. The other will come with a 10.5-inch display, which is a bit larger than the model released early this year.

There will also be a smaller iPad Pro unit with a 9.7-inch display, the same size as the smaller version of the original tablet from January.

This model will reportedly be powered by an A9X processor, which makes it a "low-cost" option, as Kuo described it, for those who are looking to upgrade without breaking the bank.

As far as design changes go, Apple will not change things up aesthetically in the iPad Pro 2 as the tech giant is saving up the big tweaks, including a flexible AMOLED panel, for the 2018 version.

"If Apple can truly tap the potential of a flexible AMOLED panel, we believe the new iPad model will offer new selling points through radical form factor design and user behavior changes, which could benefit shipments," Kuo stated on his research notes.

The iPad Pro 2 is expected to be released spring 2017.
