According to 9to5Mac, this new iPad Pro will have all the features and improvements of the original one released just last year. However, instead of a straight-forward follow-up to the original, the upcoming iPad Pro will be a portable version of the tablet. The industry follower mentioned that one of the changes in the new iteration is that the new iPad Pro will have a 9.7-inch display.

This "iPad Pro mini" is reportedly the replacement for the rumored iPad Air 3 that is expected to launch this year, MacRumors stated. The industry follower mentioned that according to speculations, Apple will be streamlining its tablet lineup starting this year, with the iPad Pro, the iPad Mini 4, and the upcoming 9.7-inch "iPad Pro mini" as the company's premium tablet range, and the current-gen iPad Air 2 staying as the entry-level iteration in the 9.7.-inch category.

While Apple has yet to provide its product lineup for the rumored March unveiling, it is said that the upcoming iPad Pro will be one of the main stars, as it will reportedly rival the specs of the original. This means that inside the frame of a smaller 9.7-inch display, the new "iPad Pro mini" will pack the same A9X chipset with at least 4GB of RAM, as well as Apple Pencil support. The Cupertino-based company is also allegedly coming out with a smaller Smart Keyboard and Smart Connector accessories, fully adjusted to pair with the smaller laptop/tablet hybrid.

For its unveiling, earlier rumors said that Apple is planning to hold the event on March 15. However, there are new speculations saying that the event is scheduled later next month, possibly by March 21.
