iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus out of stock: Verizon, AT&T shipping delays as supply woes expected for all carriers

Latest reports claim that the new iPhone 6 units are beginning to sell out as the pre-order sales of the smartphones hit new record.

Some of the versions of the new smartphone are now out of stock, and consumers will be able to do nothing but wait for at least three to four weeks for shipping or delivery.

Apple finally released a statement confirming the fears of some consumers about the shortage supply.

"Demand for the new iPhones exceeds the initial pre-order supply and while a significant amount will be delivered to customers beginning on Friday and throughout September, many iPhone pre-orders are scheduled to be delivered in October," Apple said.

The new iPhone broke the record of four million units on the first 24 hours since the pre-order opened. "iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are better in every way, and we are thrilled customers love them as much as we do," said Apple chief executive Tim Cook. "Pre-orders for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus set a new record for Apple, and we can't wait to get our best iPhones yet into the hands of customers starting this Friday."

The new iPhones were announced by the Cupertino-based company last week at its launch event alongside the Apple Watch. The Apple Store, carriers, and retailers started accepting pre-orders of the device last Friday, Sept. 12 and the smartphones are scheduled to hit the physical stores today.  Long queues are expected to form outside Apple Stores worldwide.

However, US carrier Verizon Wireless spoiled the fun and was already facing a delay for as long as a month. The 16GB space gray and gold versions of the iPhone 6 will be shipped to consumers on Oct. 14, a month after the Sept. 19 release date. AT&T also faced shipping delays of 14 to 21 business days for the Apple's phablet - iPhone 6 Plus.

The delay problems is not confined solely in the US as distributors in other countries also have supply shortages. In the UK, iPhone 6 Plus (16GB, 64GB, 128GB) orders are expected to be shipped to customers three to four weeks later. In Australia, the 64GB version of the iPhone 6 Plus units have a similar timeframe for shipment, while the space gray 16GB model will be delivered in 7 to 10 days.
