Apple iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus discounts: 8 stores to buy new smartphones for less

The new iPhones will be available for pre-order starting on Sept. 12 and will be on sale on Sept. 19. The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus are available for $199 and $299, respectively, under a two-year contract with a carrier.

Below are the eight places where one can buy the new Apple smartphones for less than the suggested price or even for free.

1. Verizon

US carrier Verizon will give its subscribers up to $200 when they trade in their old iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, or iPhone 5C. The gift card can be used in buying the new iPhone 6. Owners of iPhone 5S will be rewarded with $300 gift card in exchange for the handset. Through this, subscribers can take home the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus for free.

2. Sprint

Sprint is offering a special "iPhone for Life Plan" and throws in an unlimited data for $50 a month. Consumers who will sign up for the plan can pick up an iPhone 6 with 16GB of storage for $0 down and monthly payments of $20 on top of their bill. Subscribers can also take home the new iPhone 6 Plus for no initial cost, and the carrier will charge their bill another $25 each month for two years of the contract. The "iPhone for Life Plan" guarantees the subscriber to get a new iPhone every 24 months.

3. AT&T

Those who will head to AT&T can also get the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus on Sept. 19 for $0. Consumers can grab the entry-level iPhone 6 for $32.50 per month for the 12-month plan, or $27.09 per month under the AT&T Next 18-month plan. Meanwhile, the 16GB variant of the iPhone 6 Plus is available for $37.50 per month for 12 months and $31.25 per month for 18 months.

AT&T's trade-in program is still ongoing, and the carrier offers a minimum credit of $300 for the iPhone 5S and at least $200 for the iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, and iPhone 5C. The network will also throw in another $100 credit for new AT&T subscribers to welcome them to the family.

4. Best Buy

At Best Buy, buyers can get the 16GB iPhone 6 for free through a trade-in program and when the customer agrees to sign a new two-year contract with their chosen carrier. The upfront price depends on the condition of the device they are trading in. Owners of the iPhone 4S can get as much as $125 when trading in their device. Promo runs from Sept. 19 to 27.

5. RadioShack

Customers trading their old iPhone at RadioShack can get from $100 up to $300, depending on the model and the condition of the handset. The retailer also throws in a free $50 iTunes gift card with new iPhones in RadioShack stores on Sept. 19.

6. Walmart

Walmart is offering the 16GB variant of iPhone 6 for only $179 instead of $199, and the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus for $279 instead of $299, but customers have to sign a new two-year agreement with Verizon, AT&T, or Sprint. Moreover, Walmart will throw in a $15 Walmart e-gift card to customers who pre-order the new iPhones.

7. Sam's Club

The retailer is offering the entry-level iPhone 6 for $177 and the entry-level iPhone 6 Plus for $277 on Sept. 19.

8. Target

Target is offering the following credits for old iPhones:

  • iPhone 5S - up to $200
  • iPhone 5 or iPhone 5C - up to $100
  • iPhone 4S - up to $75
  • iPhone 4 - up to $50
