iPhone 6S release date, specs news: Front camera set to impress

Apple iPhone 6 and 6 Plus Apple

It is almost a given that Apple will be launching its new line of iPhones this coming Sept. 9.

Anticipated to be revealed are, of course, the iPhone 6S and 6S Plus, new handsets that are pegged to take it up a notch as far as keeping its popularity in check. But what do these new devices have to offer that would make them more interesting than their predecessor?

Among the rumored specs that the new handsets bring include the front-facing camera. Normally used as an easy way to take "selfies" and perhaps some real-time video chatting, the cameras will reportedly now include slow motion and panorama mode.

With that in tow, it seems that Apple has given its front-facing cameras a big bump. Well considering that the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus came equipped with a 1.2-megapixel front-facing shooter, the upcoming device/s will reportedly get a big boost as its front camera megapixel count gets a big bump to 5 megapixels.

With the front camera getting a dramatic jump, the main camera isn't far behind as well at 12 megapixels. So is Apple finally making ground as far as having its lagging pixels catch with its rivals in the smartphone segment?

If true, this rumor will be lauded by Apple fanatics. Aside from the bumped pixel count, Apple has reportedly upgraded the camera sensor and software as well.

Aside from the camera, there are also other features to look forward to as well. Such include a more powerful A9 processor that could be backed by 1.5 to 2 GB of RAM. Force Touch technology could be present as well as a lot of other features, including probably running on iOS 9.

These and more are expected to be unveiled on Wednesday, Sept. 9, starting at 1 p.m. EST or 10 a.m. PST. The event will be streamed live here.
