Reports, reviving previous rumors, say that Apple will release two iPhones this year to replace the smartphones it will let go of. The iPhone 6S and iPhone 7 are reportedly on their way as the tech giant could be planning to kill the old iPhone 4S and iPhone 5C models to make way for the new handsets. 

Apple is potentially preparing for the release of the iPhone 6S alongside the company's first wearable device, the Apple Watch, in the first quarter. The iPhone 7 launch, on the other hand, is said to take place in the third quarter. According to a report by Daily Mail, Apple is looking into staggering the two releases in order to capitalize on the sales of each device. 

Launching two or more smartphones in a year is nothing new as manufacturers try to widen their market and to reel in more consumers. Moreover, Apple is said to be trying its hands again in releasing an average smartphone for entry-level users. The more affordable iPhone 6S will reportedly bear slightly inferior specs and features, while the flagship iPhone 7 will boast full-fledged specifications, including sapphire screen display, A9 processor, iOS 9, better camera, battery, and fingerprint sensor. 

The aforementioned speculations were made stronger by the claims Cowen and Company analyst Timothy Arcuri included in his note to investors that Apple is indeed working on an iPhone 6S with a 4-inch screen display and is bound for release in spring.

Daily Mail added that Apple is hesitant to unveil the Apple Watch without a new smartphone. But then, it is highly unlikely that the Cupertino-based company will release the smartwatch with a mediocre or mid-range smartphone.

Hopefully, more solid information from Apple will surface as spring draws closer.
