Aside from the iPhone 8 and iPhone X successors arriving this year, it is expected that Apple will finally update the budget-friendly iPhone SE in the coming months. The iPhone SE 2 has been in the rumor mills for weeks, with previous reports suggesting that the latest standard edition handset will be packed with high-end features such as wireless charging and facial recognition. However, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo burst everyone's bubble this week in his latest research notes, saying that the iPhone SE 2 is already off the table.

As reported by MacRumors, Kuo thinks that the Cupertino-based tech firm will no longer have much time and resources to develop a new version of the iPhone SE this year. To note, the company is expected to have a full plate this year, with three new iPhone models coming this Fall. If there is anything new to expect from the iPhone SE, it could only be a minor hardware update. Apple may choose to increase the random access memory (RAM) option for the handset or use a new chipset. However, these changes will not be considerable enough to give birth to the iPhone SE 2.

The iPhone SE was first introduced by Apple back in March 2016 as its first budget-friendly device. The handset has the same design as the iPhone 5, although its core specs are the same as the iPhone 6S. If there will be an iPhone SE 2 in the near future, WCCFTech believes that it will be a miniature version of the iPhone 7. Particularly, the iPhone SE successor will make the jump to the A10 Fusion processor, which boasts two performance cores and two efficient cores. While the mobile chip's performance is commendable, it still pales in comparison with the latest A11 Bionic chip used in 2017 iPhone models, which can use two cores simultaneously.

A known tech tipster from tekz24.com, Sachin Bhatt, first delivered the report that the iPhone SE 2 will start to copy some features from the latest iPhone 8 and iPhone X devices. Specifically, the SE 2 is believed to use wireless charging technology, as previous leaks reveal that the handset will have its rear panel entirely made of glass material.
