'Iron Man 4' updates: Fans still in the dark on the fate of the clamored-for movie

While there is an undeniable clamor for "Iron Man 4," the fate of the movie continues to be unknown at this point in time. With some sources claiming that it is a go, and others saying it is a no, fans cannot help but be thrown off their balance.

There is no questioning that "Iron Man 4" is one of the most-talked-about movies despite the fact that Marvel Studios has yet to confirm its existence. However, according to recent reports, there is a possibility that Robert Downey Jr. may once again suit up as the iron-clad superhero in a solo movie once he is done filming with his two other projects in the pipeline, "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Sherlock Holmes 3."

On the other hand, it was speculated earlier that fans can no longer expect Downey Jr. to reprise his Tony Stark/Iron Man character for another solo "Iron Man" movie as, allegedly, Marvel is planning to kill off the character in "Avengers: Infinity War." Allegedly, as Marvel plans to introduce more superheroes from its comic books to its Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), it has to kill off some of its characters in order to accommodate the other Marvel superheroes (including Riri Williams, the new iron-clad superhero in Marvel comicbooks) in the movies, and it includes Downey Jr.'s Iron Man.

Apparently, there is no telling whether "Iron Man 4" is really happening or not as far as the fans are concerned. While Downey Jr. said in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres back in 2014 that there was going to be one, he backtracked on his earlier statement while promoting the then upcoming "Captain America: Civil War" last year. While he believed that "Iron Man 4" would be great, the actor revealed that the movie was not a part of Marvel Studios' plans.

"In a way, it's 'Cap 3 (Captain America: Civil War),' but for me it's like my little 'Iron Man 4,' and then it's back to the thing we all recognize. Everything pulls over to the side of the road when the thunder of an Avengers thing comes through because that's how it is until it changes. If it changes," Downey Jr. told USA Today last year.
