Issuing of Marriage Licenses to same-sex couples must cease

In 2000, the Vermont legislature passed a groundbreaking law which created a new marital status called "civil union" for same-sex couples and provided all state law benefits of marriage to couples joined in civil union.

It has been a few weeks for pro-family forces as courts in various places across the country seemed reluctant to put a stop to the illegal same-sex marriages. Pro-family, Concerned Women for America (CWA) praised the California Supreme Court's decision on last Thursday ordering an end to the illegal homosexual "marriages" taking place in San Francisco. But they still want to turn down the civil unions.

Currently, marriage is defined as the union between a man and a woman, but the gay “couples?have a counterfeit alternative to be involved in civil union. Some homosexual activists reject civil unions because they think they are separate and unequal. If it were about benefits and protections, the anarchy in San Francisco wouldn't have occurred in a state that will provide all the rights and benefits of marriage to domestic partners.

CWA and other pro-family activists are encouraging legislators to separate the two issues into separate amendments for the people to vote on as individual issues. Since there is potential constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, CWA urges Gov. Mitt Romney to issue an order prohibiting the issuance of marriage licenses to same-sex couples,
