'It' news: Escape from Pennywise in new VR game

Players have to escape from Pennywise in the new "It" VR game YouTube/Oculus

Warner Bros. released a new virtual reality game based on the blockbuster horror movie "It."

The next chapter of the VR experience, titled "It: Escape from Pennywise," will have players go inside the Neibolt house and choose a door to determine their fate. The door choices are based on the same ones featured in the film — not scary at all, scary, and very scary. Each portal opens to a different scenario but all star Pennywise and the player's greatest fears.

The new immersive experience was released just in time for Halloween, for fans who are still craving for a bit of the creepy clown to complete the season. It is available for Google Daydream and the Samsung Gear VR for only $0.99. The game also works for family sharing of up to six total participants. A note to players, the device must be running on Android 7.0 to run the Daydream app.

"It: Escape from Pennywise" is the second VR Experience from Warner Bros., which released "It: Float" prior to the film's premiere. That game brought players to the dark and terrifying sewers of Derry, Maine.

"Escape from Pennywise" comes after the very successful run of Andy Muschietti's movie adaptation of the Stephen King novel. "It" broke a number of records, including being the first horror film to surpass $300 million in ticket sales at the domestic box office alone, making it well-above the previous record holder, "The Sixth Sense." Its worldwide gross is now over $666 million.

Before that, "It" surpassed the long-standing record held by the 1973 film "The Exorcist" as the highest grossing R-rated horror film in history.

The first installment of "It" is set in 1980s Derry, Maine, where a group of teens, famously known as the Losers' Club, were tormented by Pennywise the Dancing Clown (Bill Skarsgard). Its sequel, which will be set 30 years later, is set for release on Sept. 6, 2019.
