'iZombie' season 3 spoilers: No happy ending coming for Major

The CW

"iZombie" season 2 ended with a low note as Liv (Rose McIver) and her group discovered that the zombies were forming their own headquarters in the city. This increasing sense of danger will translate to the characters as well as actor Robert Buckley, who plays Major Lilywhite, explains there is no happy ending intended for his character in season 3.

Speaking at this year's WonderCon (via ComicBook Resources), the actor explained that he is not a fan of happy endings and that many fans were not as well since a happy ending eliminates all sense of surprise. As stated by Buckley, fans bypass anti-depressant commercials because they already know how it ends and this lacks suspense.

"Selfishly I'd love to see things go well for him, but as a viewer I think it's far more interesting to watch him just get shattered and his dreams be destroyed," the actor explained further, reiterating that personally he would want a happy ending but that it wouldn't be good for the show. "It makes for good TV. No one wants to see happy people do well."

While this does not necessarily mean the character will be killed off, it does hint that he will not be getting a more permanent cure any time soon. Major was given a cure to his zombie infection in season 2 but this turned out to be temporary, causing him to revert back to his zombie state before the end of the season.

During the interview, the actor did state that there is still the possibility Major will be killed off. Buckley compared their show to the unpredictability of "Game of Thrones" where any of the major characters could be killed off at any given moment. Unlike other television series, the main cast of "iZombie" were never safe and could be written out.

"iZombie" season 3 is expected to premiere this fall.
