"Jade Empire" is one of BioWare's best RPGs, but it hasn't seen the same amount of success that their other titles have, such as the "Mass Effect" games or "Dragon Age." A "Special Edition" launched for PC back in 2007 and for Mac in 2008. This version of the game is now available for both iOS and Android devices.

The iOS version came out in early October this year, and now, the Android version is available on the Google Play Store and on the Apple AppStore. Neither the iOS nor Android ports are free and "Jade Empire: Special Edition" costs a full $9.99.

While the game does feature touchscreen controls, it does come with full controller support, allowing gamers to utilize a Bluetooth controller when necessary. Players with a smart TV can screencast the game from their device and then play the game with a controller.

It is noted in a review from Touch Arcade that the game features slightly improved graphics and resolution settings except for the cutscenes, given that these were made over a decade ago. Because of this, the cutscenes are rendered in their original resolution.

"Jade Empire: Special Edition" focuses on the Kung Fu genre and mixes real-time action with traditional RPG elements such as a deep story and character management. Four different martial arts styles can be equipped at a time and can be swiftly cycled through with screen swipes or button presses if the player is using a controller.

The game is also noted as BioWare's first foray into action RPG territory. Prior to the release of this game, the company focused heavily on strategic RPG gameplay based around tabletop gaming, such as their "Neverwinter Nights" games and "Baldur's Gate" games. This action-RPG mechanic was later refined in the "Mass Effect" series.
