'Jane the Virgin' Season 2 spoilers, plot news: Mother reunited with kidnapped baby

'Jane the Virgin' season 2 will premiere October 19.The CW

Gina Rodriguez and the rest of the cast of "Jane the Virgin" will return for its second season on October 19, The CW has announced.

Rodriguez, who will star as the enigmatic Jane, opened up about the Season 1 finale in an interview with Time Magazine. Viewers will remember that the show ended after she gave birth to a baby boy named Mateo, only to see Sin Rostro (Bridget Regan) kidnap her newborn.

The Golden Globe best actress revealed how shocked she was after discovering how the season would end. "I had no idea until the day before we started shooting. In the beginning, I was like, 'This could be crazy. How am I going to be prepared for this?'"

The 30-year-old actress admitted that the kidnapping was an ingenious way to end the season. "The capturing of Mateo at the end, I thought, was brilliant because it's such an amazing cliffhanger," she said.

Fans of the show will be relieved to know, however, that Mateo will reunite with his mother very soon. Jamie Camil, who plays Jane's father, Rogelio de la Verga, let slip in an interview with Hollywood Reporter that the baby will return safely and quickly.

"That's what Jennie told us. She shared that the baby needs to come back fast," Camil said, pertaining to Jennie Urman, the show's producer.

Meanwhile, Rodriguez hoped that Regan would reprise her role as the villainous redhead in the series. Rostro was said to have changed her face towards the end of Season 1.

"I think Bridget's coming back. I was definitely not told she wasn't, and I love Bridget. I adore that woman. She's a phenomenal actress and a phenomenal person, so I hope she's coming back."

As for Jane's love life, the show is keeping the audience in suspense on whether she will choose Michael (Brett Dier) or Rafael (Justin Baldoni). Rodriguez told Time Magazine that even the cast and crew were divided on whom to root for.

"It's really funny, because we obviously all love Brett and Justin so much. It's usually the perspective of each character. Justin's the one that has to take the most heat because his character breaks Jane's heart, so poor Justin. He's so sweet. Most people will be Team Michael these days. It makes him so sad because he's such a sweetheart, and he's definitely nothing like Rafael!" she said.

"Jane the Virgin" Season 2 will keep its 9 p.m. time slot on Monday nights.
