"Jane the Virgin" surprised everyone with the outing of Adam (Tyler Posey) in last week's episode. Fans were amazed at how The CW series tackled the topic of male bisexuality.

In the show's fourth season, Posey plays the role of Adam, who was a comic-book artist in his younger days. He is now trying to win Jane's (Gina Rodriguez) heart again after they broke up their engagement before. In "Chapter Sixty-Nine," while talking to Danny (Joshua Chang), Posey's character admitted he dated men while he was still in New York.

Jane took the revelation well and asked if he is indeed a bisexual. "I had a boyfriend in art school ... and another in Fort Greene," Adam revealed. Jane even found it cool, although she was surprised to learn it just now in "Jane the Virgin" season 4 episode 5.

Adam said he was afraid it would be an issue between them, to which Jane responded it was totally okay. However, the latter told everything to her mom, Xiomara (Andrea Navedo), and confessed that she was totally concerned about his bisexuality.

In "Jane the Virgin" season 4 episode 5, Jane realized that being bisexual is a double standard. She explained if women were together, it was called sexy. On the other hand, if men were together, they were judged because of the culture and society.

In an interview with the Variety, showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman was proud to say that they made a great decision by outing Adam's bisexuality.

"We felt like we hadn't had a romantic hero who's also bisexual," she said.

She added it would be a good storyline to explore in "Jane the Virgin" season 4, especially since Jane did not think it would be a big issue between them.

Although Rodriguez's character is kind of conventional and from a religious family, she can accept easily that things will never unfold as she wants it to. So, this revelation and their romance will be featured in the next episodes.

"Jane the Virgin" season 4 airs every Friday at 9 p.m. EST on The CW.
