Jeremy Lin news: High on Dallas Mavericks radar

With Monta Ellis opting out of his contract as expected, the Dallas Mavericks now find themselves shorthanded in the guard rotation.

Aside from Ellis, Rajon Rondo is expected to be heading out the Mavericks camp as well, leaving only Raymond Felton, JJ Barrea and Devin Harris to alternate at the guard positions.

The Mavericks don't intend to bring in a high profile player meaning they have no plans to spend on a prime time guard. And on that note, Jeremy Lin is being mentioned as a possible recruit come free agency.

With teams keeping a close eye on their salary cap, Lin could be suddenly a hot commodity. The Asian-American is not expected to return to the Lakers after a forgettable season and multiple teams have signified their intention of hooking up the Harvard University standout.

Of course, Lin understands that his pay will severely dwindle in the process though such is not expected to alter his preference to continue playing in the league.

Aside from the Mavericks, there are at least six other teams which could make a go for Lin.

That list includes the Denver Nuggets, Houston Rockets, Golden State Warriors, Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets and the Indiana Pacers. The common need of all teams is the need for a point guard, majority for a backup role.

No one among the teams have the inside track though all that could change once NBA Free Agency starts.

Despite a forgettable tenure with the Lakers, Lin managed to put up averages of 11.2 points and 4.6 assists in a limited showing due to his inability to adapt to coach Byron Scott's system.

Making the Mavs a favorite to land him is the fact that Parsons holds close ties with Lin. This dates back to their Houston Rockets days before the two joined different clubs.

Could Lin be a fix for Dallas?
