After Josh Duggar released a statement confirming reports that he molested young girls when he was a young teenager, there were many who called for the Duggar's TLC show, "19 Kids and Counting," to be cancelled following the scandal. But others such as his parents Jim Bob and Michelle, his wife Anna, and politician Mike Huckabee are standing by his side as they have released their own statements pertaining to the issue. Recently, another family member came forward to declare his support for the 27-year old and his family. 

Michael Seewald, the father-in-law of Josh's sister Jessa, posted in his family blog a piece titled "Grace Greater Than Our Sins," and he explained why he chose to speak out about the issue. Seewald said that although he would rather not discuss the sensitive nature of the matter on his blog, it pains him to see how Josh and his parents are being scrutinized by the media and the public. 

"There is blood in the water and the sharks are in a feeding frenzy," he wrote. 

Seewald defended Jim Bob and Michelle's actions at the time of the incident, saying that they did the right thing in response to what Josh did. It was reported that Jim Bob spoke with the elders at the family's church about the offenses, and it was suggested that Josh should enter a treatment program, at which point he spent four months in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Upon his return, Jim Bob informed those aware of the situation that Josh has received counseling and took him to a family friend who was a state trooper to reveal what occurred, resulting in the then 14-year old Josh getting a stern lecture. 

"I believe that Josh's parents acted in a way that godly parents should. They did not turn a blind eye, but earnestly sought help from the church, counselors, and eventually the police," Seewald continued in his blog. 

Seewald urged victims of sexual abuse to speak up, saying, "Remember, it is never okay for someone to treat you that way even if they are a parent, a sibling or a friend. There are many people who will help you if you just break the silence." 

He also countered the many critics calling out the Duggars for their political and social viewpoints, as many people were quick to point out that Josh molested the girls because of his parents' views on dating and the like.

"The stupidity of some people is mind boggling," noted Seewald. "Josh didn't sin because he was repressed, he sinned because like all of us he is a sinner." 

Seewald made sure to encourage Josh as he said that his family is standing by him during this difficult time in his life.

"I want to say that the Seewald family stands with the Duggar family in solidarity…I want to say to Josh, hang in there, the shame you feel is legitimate, yet Jesus took your shame as he was punished in your place. I'm rooting for you."
