The "Jessica Jones" series was dominated by the obsessive Purple Man, Kilgrave (David Tennent), all throughout season 1. However, for Jessica Jones' (Krysten Ritter) next escapade, Kilgrave will no longer be tormenting her and will be replaced by multiple villains to get the job done.

Executive producer Melissa Rosenberg admits that Kilgrave was such a powerful character in season 1, to the point that it will be impossible to top. In line with this, she teases that Kilgrave will not be replaced by one antagonist, but many. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rosenburg was asked about how she is figuring out who will be season 2's new villain. Rosenburg said, "Or antagonists, plural. No one is ever going to beat David Tennant as Kilgrave, so you don't do that. The biggest mistake would be to try to repeat that. You just go, 'OK, we're not doing that, so we have this open to us.'"

While planning on who Jessica Jones' next villains might be, Rosenburg is also busy aligning with "The Defenders" showrunners Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie on how Jones' story will develop. Rosenburg said, "My colleagues Marco Ramirez and Doug Petrie, who are doing 'Defenders,' they've shared material. We've sat down for many conversations about what are they doing, what's happening with Jessica?"

As GamenGuide reported, "Jessica Jones" season 2 will premiere following Marvel's "The Defenders" series, where Jessica, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Iron Fist will be united.

With Rosenburg hinting of multiple big bads for "Jessica Jones" season 2, there have been speculations that Jones' new villains to fight off will be members of IGH, the highly classified paramilitary group that provided Will Simpson (Will Traval) his combat enhancers. A lot of the characters from "Jessica Jones" and "The Defenders" are somehow connected to IGH, which is believed to be the factor that brings all the characters together in "The Defenders" series.

"Jessica Jones" will be launched in 2018, while "The Defenders" will premiere in 2017 on Netflix.
