"Jessica Jones" season 1 ended with the sudden death of the villain Kilgrave (David Tennant), when Jessica (Krysten Ritter) snapped his neck to prevent him from using his powers to gain control over her mind. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, executive producer Melissa Rosenberg reveals who Jessica may be up against when the show returns for season 2.

"Or antagonists, plural," Rosenberg stated when asked who might be the new villain. "No one is ever going to beat David Tennant as Kilgrave, so you don't do that. The biggest mistake would be to try to repeat that. You just go, 'OK, we're not doing that, so we have this open to us.'"

When asked if the writers already have some villains in mind to step up as Jessica's next threat, Rosenberg explained she could not reveal it as the villains would be a surprise for the audience. It is likely they will be revealed as the second season enters production and right before the season premieres in 2018.

Fans have asked if Kilgrave could make a comeback given that in the comic book source materials he has the ability to place his body in some form of trance, almost as if he was dead, to allow his body to slowly heal and bring him back to full strength.

As pointed out in a report from Ecumenical News, Rosenberg is not so keen on repeating storylines that have already been done on the show and because of this Kilgrave's healing factor might not be put into use and the character will remain dead, allowing the show to focus instead on other villains from the comic books.

No official release date has been announced just yet but it will enter production after filming has been completed for "Defenders." It will launch after "Defenders," "Luke Cage," and "Iron Fist" have released on Netflix, giving it a 2018 release.
