According to a report from Variety, "Jurassic World" has just earned over $209 million at the domestic box office and a staggering $511.8 million worldwide in its opening weekend, making it the highest grossing opening weekend of all time.

The previous holder of this title was Marvel's "The Avengers," released in 2012 and earned a total domestic opening weekend box office of $207.4 million. The $307.2 million that "Jurassic World" earned internationally is second only to the $314 million earned by "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2."

According to a report from Variety, a big chunk of the film's success stems from the strong $100 million opening in China. "Jurassic World" went on to earn $29.6 million in the United Kingdom, $16.2 million in Mexico, and $14.4 million in South Korea. The film has yet to open in Japan on Aug. 5.

The report also points out that $23.5 million of the film's international earnings come from IMAX tickets while approximately 50 per cent of the international box office earnings come from 3D ticket sales. The rest are from regular cinema tickets.

According to a report from the Collider, "Jurassic World" was originally tracking for $100 million for its domestic opening weekend box office. These numbers aren't "astronimical," as the site puts it, but they would be enough to guarantee success and may convince Universal Pictures to move forward with a sequel.

The report also puts to question how long "Jurassic World" will be able to retain its hold on the box office. Most films experience a 40 to 50 per cent drop after their opening weekend but films such as "Furious 7" were able to maintain strong box office records even during their second and third weekend.

Universal Pictures is now the fastest studio to earn $1 billion domestically and $3 billion worldwide, owing its success to "Jurassic World," "Furious 7," and "Fifty Shades of Grey."

With the massive success of "Jurassic World," it will come as no surprise if Universal Pictures is already on the move to develop the next film in the dinosaur franchise.
