'just10 South London' Keeps the Fire of Evangelism Glowing in London

Following Soul in the City which concluded on 7th August, the fire of evangelism throughout London will be carried forward by the preaching of words and prayers. Another exciting event - just10 South London - will commence in September.

Currently the Anglican churches throughout Britain are facing the challenge laid down by the “Mission-shaped church” report. Soul in the City was a very successful first step to initiate a change. The mission involved 750 churches working in partnership. It mobilised around 15,000 young people from around the UK and abroad in community projects, sports initiatives, children’s clubs and other schemes across London in an attempt to demonstrate faith in action. Not only were the spirits of many Christians revived, but many new members were also drawn into the church as a result of the outreach.

The next step will be just10 South London. Rather than a mission, just 10 South London is more evangelistic. The major event of just10 South London will be the just10 series hosted by the famous evangelist J. John. The just10 series consists of 10 talks based on the 10 Commandments to be delivered over a 2-week period. It is designed for the un-churched, offering practical as well as spiritual guidance on life in a contemporary and professional way. The talks are going to take place from 13th to 24th September in a marquee, which has a capacity of 5,000 people, on Clapham Common, London.

The just10 series

1. How to find true contentment
2. How to hold to the truth
3. How to prosper with a clear conscience
4. How to “affair-proof” your relationships
5. How to tame your temper
6. How to keep the peace with your parents
7. How to stop driving yourself crazy
8. How to take God seriously
9. How to know the real God
10. How to live by priorities

Each evening will see a large-scale event open with a welcome and worship, before a video introduction and testimony start. These elements build towards J.John’s presentation, after which personal responses can be made.

just10 is expected to play the role of training those who have been awoken by the Soul in the City mission, so that these seeds of faith can be equipped as evangelists to introduce the Gospel to others and continue to apply the Gospel into their lives.

More than just10 series talks, just10 South London will bring hundreds of churches in South London together. The partner churches are committed to praying for the event; preparing and encouraging members to attend the talks by organising evangelism training courses in advance; and continuing to pastor the participants as well as providing financial support.

In addition, just10 South London is working closely with Alpha, which has been very successful in introducing Christian faith to all walks of life by a series of simple courses. Both of the groups share the same vision in their evangelistic efforts - the re-evangelisation of the UK and transformation of society. Running with just10 South London, Alpha will launch the biggest Christian advertising initiative ever, and commence its autumn courses. The just10 series talks will be closed with the biggest Alpha supper in the world on Saturday 25th September.

Previous just10 missions held across the UK have witnessed communities renewed by God’s values. The Diocese of London described just10 South London as one of the UK’s biggest ever evangelistic events. The concept behind just10 South London actually matches with the “London Challenge” identified by the Bishop of London as the key commitment of the diocese that has to be fulfilled in the coming five years.

Tom Butler, Bishop of Southwark; Richard Chartres, Bishop of London; Bishop John Francis, Ruach Ministries; Tony Coleman, Labour MP; Gary Streeter, Conservative MP; Simon Hughes, Liberal Democrat MP; Steve Chalke MBE, Oasis Trust, and Rev Joel Edwards of the Evangelical Alliance have all shown full support to just10 South London.

Rev Joel Edwards, General Director of the Evangelical Alliance, commented, “Churches everywhere should sign up to just10 South London to bring friends and families to Jesus. There hasn’t been an opportunity like this in London for as long as I can remember and I believe it will herald true revival across this land!”
