Kaby Lake release date: Processors scheduled to launch in December

Intel

According to a report from Mobi Picker, an internal roadmap for the Intel Kaby Lake processors has been leaked and spread online and the information shared gives more insight into when the processors are set to launch. The report states that the Kaby Lake processor is more likely going to launch by this December.

It is further explained that the original plan was to get all variations of the Kaby Lake processor, from the 14nm 200 series processor to the Lake-S chipset and the U and Y series, out by Q3 of this year but this was then pushed to the last quarter of the year due to unidentified production issues.

According to the report, the desktop processors will come in two main variants, referred to as the Kaby Lake-S 4+2 and Kaby Lake-S 2+2. The numbers refer to quad-core processors and dual-core processors and an onboard dual-core GT2 graphics card.

There will be another chipset known as the Kaby Lake 200 PCH, although no specific details regarding this chipset has yet been released.

The Guru of 3D reports that the first few samples may be available as early as this October. However, the report reveals that the upcoming Kaby Lake processors won't all release at once and instead will see staggered releases from this December and the following month of January 2017 during the CES event all the way to January 2018.

Several iterations of the Kaby Lake will be designed solely for mobile devices such as laptops and the tablet-laptop hybrid, the Microsoft Surface Book. Other notable devices such as upcoming Lenovo laptops and even gaming consoles are rumored to be waiting for the Kaby Lake processors.

A previous report also compared the Kaby Lake directly to the Skylake processor, which it is set to replace in the coming years. It does appear that the Kaby Lake will be more efficient than the Skylake processors despite not being as expansive as their predecessors.
