Rappers Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole teased a collaboration album as far back as 2013 but ever since their initial announcement, the fans have not yet been given any official update on the project.

The silence has been broken as Top Dawg Entertainment president Dave Free recently spoke with MTV News and advised fans to simply be patient.

According to Free, at this point anything is still possible. However, he also pointed out that both are at the top of their careers. Free explained that both rappers will need to keep going if they are to stay where they are. He explains they both need to keep "grinding" and that there is still much work to do.

However, he did mention that the collaboration is still on the table but fans will need to be patient.

"A joint album does sound great, but people need to understand, these are two geniuses," Free stated. "These are two creative guys. It takes a long time for one of them to get in a space to create a song, so to get two of them in a space to do that, it takes a lot of time and energy. It all has to be a singular project, but it just can't happen overnight."

Free also explained that fans often think that artists can write music quickly. He ackowledged that sometimes this does happen but that it all depends on timing. Free continued to explain that the timing will be right when the fans need it and for the time being all he can represent is what TDE currently has to offer.

With that said, while artists such as SZA and Soul are ready to launch their new material this year, Free commented that Kendrick Lamar is currently working on new material but there is no guarantee when it will release.
