While the highly anticipated Kendrick Lamar-J. Cole collaboration album may not happen anytime soon, speculations claim that the project could still happen in the future.

The rumored project appeared to be unattainable after Lamar was sued for copyright infringement because of allegedly plagiarizing the 1975 song "Don't You Want to Stay" from Bill Withers and used it for his own song with the exact same title. The lawsuit was filed last month by Golden Withers Music and Musidex Music, the copyright owners of Withers's song.

The lawsuit could further delay plans for any collaborative work between Cole and Lamar. Fans have been waiting for their album project since the two came up with the track "Forbidden Fruit" on Cole's "Born Sinner" album.

But according to a Complex interview with beatmaker Cardo, the dream collaboration between the two hip hop artists is still possible despite Lamar's legal problems after Cole's team reached out to him to work on a still-undisclosed project.

The hip hop producer has a history of working with Lamar, including several tracks on "To Pimp a Butterfly." This led to the speculations about his participation in the Lamar-Cole project.

Cardo revealed that his friend told him that Cole required some beats.

"I ended up talking to J. Cole and had like a 30-minute conversation just talking about music and everything," the beat maker explained. "I thought that was the dopest s**t as well because I'm a fan of J. Cole's music. He said he's got this record and just needs the files, so I ended up sending him files and this and that."

Cardo's statements made fans assume that Cole's still-untitled project with him will be included in the collaboration album between the rappers.

However, representatives from both camps have yet to make a statement regarding the rumored collaboration.
