Kickass Torrents and The Pirate Bay met different fates in the seemingly unending fight of rights holders and production studios to eradicate piracy down to its core.

The former was successfully taken down last month and supposed owner Artem Vaulin was put behind bars. Mirror copies of the site continued to pop up, but none of them lasted.

A couple of weeks back, a group of Kickass Torrents operators set up a GoFundMe page to ask help from fans to rebuild the site to the way it was before it got shutdown. The campaign was eventually taken down as well.

It appears that Kickass Torrents failed to weather this storm. This is the complete opposite for The Pirate Bay, which stays alive despite numerous attempts to exterminate it.

Just recently, the torrent giant celebrated 13 years of its existence. The festivity was sweeter because of the site's successful deflection of attacks from production companies.

The Pirate Bay is actually enjoying a new level of popularity since the demise of Kickass Torrents. Users from the site have turned to TPB for their torrenting needs.

"TPB is as important today as it was yesterday, and its role in being the galaxy's most resilient torrent site will continue for the foreseeable future," The Pirate Bay staff operator Spud17 told Torrent Freak.

The operators of The Pirate Bay do not seem to be bothered by the downfall of its fellow big torrent players. In fact, they see a bright future ahead for TPB.

"Sure, TPB has its flaws and glitches but it's still the go-to site for all our media needs, and I can see TPB still being around in 20 or 30 years time, even if the technology changes," Spud17 went on to say.

Another The Pirate Bay member by the name of Xe added that while the site is not perfect, it is still a big hit today because it is "simple, steadfast and true."
