'Killing Floor 2' release date via Early Access by April 21: What to know

Tripewire Interactive

"Killing Floor 2" will officially make its debut later this month after Tripwire announced the Early Access release of the cooperative first-person shooter game. The date of release has been pegged for April 21, about two weeks from now.

For folks who were able to catch it during the PC Gamers Show, nothing different from what was seen is expected to be seen. During that event, "Killing Floor 2" was shown to have four classes, three maps and roughly about 11 monsters.

After 5 years, "Killing Floor 2" will be set over at continental Europe, a region that is now in the midst of a viral outbreak which has resulted in the transformation of innocent human beings into flesh-eating mutants.

Thus, the fate of the region is left unto the hands of civilians and mercenaries whose prime directive is to put up bases and track down the infected individuals where the only apparent solution is to annihilate them on sight.

But embarking on the mission doesn't have to be done alone. The game allows up to 6 players for co-op which should make the missions manageable. Gamers will have access to multiple types of weaponry, ranging from assault rifles to improvised weapons (roughly around 27 per Tripwire) to arm combatants with the proper killing tools against the ravenous infected creatures they will be up against.

And for the ones who want to do the extreme, the Brutal Melee Combat option should come in handy. This feature allows gamers to take control over the type of melee attacks they can do, an alternative to the vast array of weapons they can get their hands on.

Other things to look forward to include 3 non-linear levels, 7 types of playable characters and of course the boss character who is reportedly not the Patriarch.

All this and more await "Killing Floor 2" fanatics once it goes up over at Early Access on April 21.
