Kim Kardashian is famous for many things, and one of them is her Instagram account garnering over 40 million followers. She may have that huge number of fans, but the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) wasn't one of them when she took her latest selfie.

The selfie in question was that of Kardashian posing with a bottle of pills intended to treat morning sickness.

It appeared that the pregnant socialite was promoting the drug Diclegis, claiming that it made her feel better and that the drug has been studied and doesn't pose any risk to her baby, CNBC reported.

Kardashian's post also mentioned that she is partnering with Duchesnay, the drugmaker, to raise awareness that morning sickness in pregnant women can be treated.

The post received over 450,000 likes, but the FDA did not support it. In fact, the agency wrote a formal letter of warning addressed to the drug manufacturer.

The letter, which was sent on Aug. 7 according to Today, stated that Kardashian's post was misleading. While the TV personality may have claimed it was effective, FDA thought it failed to "communicate any risk information."

The letter also stated that the post may have implied that the drug is "safer than has been demonstrated."

The New York Times reported that the Instagram post was reported through the "Bad Ad" program by the FDA, which monitors misleading advertisement.

According to Duchesnay, which told CNBC, Kardashian was paid to promote the drug but the star found the drug herself through her doctor.

The company also mentioned that it will quickly respond to the warning letter given by the drug agency.

The selfie has since been removed and the FDA has asked the celebrity to make some corrections to her post, which means that she has to make a follow-up post on the same social media platform.

CNBC had requested comment from Kardashian but she hasn't given any.
