The very first live-action TV series for the "King Kong" franchise is reportedly in the works.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed that IM Global and MarVista Entertainment are collaborating to bring Merian C. Cooper's classic "King Kong" film that was released in 1933 as well as the "Skull Island" from DeVito ArtWorks on the small screen.

According to the report, the project will center on the modern continuation of the classic franchise as well as uncover the origins of the Skull Island based on the plot from the comic book series titled "Kong of Skull Island."

However, the report also mentioned that the live-action series will not be connected to the recently released "Kong: Skull Island" film that was directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts.

Also, the report mentioned that the upcoming "King Kong" TV series will have a female lead. It will also feature a multicultural cast that will look into the mysteries of Skull Island.

The report also revealed that critically-acclaimed writers Jonathan Penner and Stacy Title will serve as the series' writers and executive producers. In a press statement, MarVista CEO Fernando Szew stated: "Jonathan and Stacy have taken a world that has enraptured audiences in all its many forms over the years and given it a contemporary, female-focused spin. It is with great anticipation that we partner with IM Global Television to bring this exciting new vision directly into viewers' homes."

The planned "King Kong: Skull Island" series will be the first live-action TV show in the entire franchise. Three animated series were released in the previous years, including "The King Kong Show" in 1966, "Kong: The Animated Series" in 2000, as well as "Kong: King of the Apes" in 2016.

At the moment, the planned "King Kong" live-action TV franchise has yet to find its official network, but more details about the show are expected to be announced soon.
