'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date and 'Kingdom Hearts 2.9' pre-release leaked?

According to a report from Destructoid, a Square Enix employee's LinkedIn profile page had inadvertently leaked information about the upcoming "Kingdom Hearts 3" as well as a mysterious project titled "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" which is reportedly going to be released for the PS3 and PS4.

Information on the LinkedIn profile shows that the owner was once a game director and game designer for Square Enix until his departure from the company in June of this year.

The report states that "Kingdom Hearts 2.9" may be a re-release of the first two "Kingdom Hearts" games on the PS4 as the previous HD remasters were solely for the PS3. Given that "Kingdom Hearts 3" will be released for the PS4, this move makes sense as it would allow gamers to have the main games all in one platform.

According to IGN, the title might be another spin-off or prologue to "Kingdom Hearts 3," similar to how "Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories" was set between the first two games.

The LinkedIn profile also posts information regarding some of the elements in "Kingdom Hearts 3" such as the return of the Gummi Ship, a possible visit to a world based on the Pixar animated films, and multiplayer mechanics. If the information is true, then this will be the first "Kingdom Hearts" game with a Pixar-based world and any type of multiplayer.

However, IGN points out that the profile only has two connections which may be an indication it is fake and was simply made to spread rumors. IGN reached out to Square Enix for clarification but the company merely stated that they do not respond to speculations or rumors.

Until Square Enix releases a trailer or confirms the information during an event, these tidbits found on the LinkedIn profile should be considered as mere rumors at this point.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" sees the return of Sora as he hunts for the "Key to Return Hearts" while King Mickey and Riku look for other Keyblade wielders. The game will also officially end the "Dark Seeker" trilogy.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" has yet to have a confrmed release date.
