As "Kingdom Hearts 3" continues to make headlines in the gaming community, announcements on its official release are still to be made. Developed by Square Enix and to be published by Disney Interactive Studios, the upcoming game will be designed for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles.

Its predecessor was made available almost 10 years ago exclusively for the Nintendo and Sony PlayStation platforms.

Last year, Sony formally announced at the E3 event that gaming fans can look forward to "Kingdom Hearts 3" being developed, although a release date was not given.

While there have been limited information on the upcoming installment of the "Kingdom Hearts" lineup, it has recently been reported that there may be changes among those in charge of the directorial duties for "Kingdom Hearts 3" and "Final Fantasy XV."

"FFXV" project director Tetsuya Nomura has made the switch to work on "Kingdom Hearts 3." Aside from designing characters for the "Final Fantasy" series, Nomura also worked with the "Kingdom Hearts" series even before its first game was made available.

Nomura will then be replaced by Hajime Tabata, director for "Final Fantasy Type-0" and "Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII."

"Currently, Tabata and the entire development team are working, whole-heartedly, towards completing the production of Final Fantasy XV and ensuring the delivery of the highest quality Final Fantasy title to date," Square Enix CEO Yosuke Matsuda announced.

A number of speculations about the game itself have gone viral. For instance, the main hero of "Kingdom Hearts 3," Sora, will venture out this time with Donald and Goofy as they seek for the Seven Guardians of Light.

Nomura also said in an interview with the Los Angeles Times that "Kingdom Hearts 3" will not be the final installment in the series.

"In 'Kingdom Hearts 3,' the battles that the characters have been fighting for the past 10 years will come to a conclusion," the director said. "That is the plan. But the series will continue. Only the particular enemy they have been fighting the past 10 years will come to an end,"

Interestingly, the game has been said to incorporate Disney worlds which have never been included in its predecessors. Square Enix, however, has not confirmed as to which specific worlds will be featured and whether a Pixar world will be included in "Kingdom Hearts 3."
