Square Enix has yet to come out with more details on "Kingdom Hearts 3," particularly a specific release date. However, rumors suggest that the upcoming title may be a launching game for the Nintendo NX, hinting at a 2017 release.

According to Nintendo Insider, an Australia-based retailer has listed "Kingdom Hearts 3" as a title for the Nintendo NX. Reportedly, EB Games Australia listed the title in their placeholder list for the upcoming Nintendo system, together with a supposed $119.95 price tag. The franchise game is listed together with other confirmed Nintendo NX titles like "The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild" and "Just Dance 2017."

While Nintendo and Square Enix have yet to confirm the rumor, the industry follower also mentioned that it may be a factor to the publisher's silence on additional "Kingdom Hearts 3" details. Fans expected Square Enix to come out with information on the new franchise title in major trade events this year like the 2016 E3 and Gamescom, but no announcements on "Kingdom Hearts 3" have been made. This is understandable if the game has a 2017 scheduled release, since Square Enix is also focusing on other major projects. Another big-name franchise installment, "Final Fantasy XV," is due next month. In addition, Square Enix is also working on a remake of "Final Fantasy VII."

Meanwhile, other observers are not sold on the idea that the next "Kingdom Hearts" game will be a launching title for the NX. According to My Nintendo News, EB Games Australia itself denies that "Kingdom Hearts 3" is listed on their website. The retailer also issued an announcement, saying that the game has not been available as a Nintendo NX game, let alone a pre-order title on their website, and that some enterprising fan must be behind the supposed list, with "... some amount of Photoshop was involved."
