'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date news: Ending to game teased in Japanese PC spin-off

Square-Enix

"Kingdom Hearts 3" has yet to receive an official release date but it is speculated to launch by April 2017 at the earliest, given that a previous report points out the game is not in Square-Enix's fiscal report for this year. Despite being months or even a year away from release, its ending may have already been previewed in another game.

According to a report from Design and Trend, the ending for the PC game "Kingdom Hearts χ," which was released only in Japan, may hint at the potential climax for the still-unreleased "Kingdom Hearts 3." A modified version of this game was later released for mobile devices, titled "Kingdom Hearts Unchained χ" and this is the version released in the US.

The report cites that both KH13 and The Gamers Joint on YouTube have analyzed the ending and have surmised that it tackles the inevitable conflict between the 13 Darkness and the 7 Light, a battle which will end the series' current main storyline. It is further pointed out that Sora and his allies are of the 7 Light while Xehanort leads the 13 Darkness.

"Kingdom Hearts χ" ends with the player character in a keyblade graveyard where the weapons of fallen warriors have been left behind. Standing on both sides of the screens are shadowy figures and they are both speculated to be the 13 Darkness and 7 Light characters.

The player character then sees a light shining from above and simply states "This is..." before the screen fades to black and the game ends. It is rumored that this light could be Sora or Kingdom Hearts itself, showing its true form for the first time in the entire franchise.

Fans speculate this could mean "Kingdom Hearts 3" will end with the battle of both sides within this keyblade graveyard until one of them successfully opens and unleashes the power of Kingdom Hearts to defeat the opposite team. It is also notable that this graveyard made an appearance in the ending of "Kingdom Hearts 2."
