'Kingdom Hearts 3' release date: No trailer expected until D23 Expo

Kingdom Hearts III Square-Enix

Square-Enix has just released a brand-new trailer for "Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8: The Final Chapter Prologue" which is a compilation of three projects that will tie into the story of "Kingdom Hearts 3." However, "Kingdom Hearts 3" itself is stated to be absent during this year's E3 and will not be presented until a later event.

According to a report from Design and Trend, E3 is going to be used specifically to promote "The Final Chapter Prologue" which is due for a release later this year. "Kingdom Hearts 3" will instead be pushed to a different event and it is speculated that it a trailer showcasing the new worlds, gameplay elements and characters will be show at D23.

The D23 Expo is not scheduled for this year and will take place in July 2017. If the rumors are true that "Kingdom Hearts 3" will not be presented until that time then fans will have over a year to wait for any information. However, this is nothing new given how long the development has been for the game.

Square-Enix fans will also note that "Final Fantasy XV" has been in development for a decade and there have been years where absolutely nothing was presented ot the fans, particularly when it was still titled "Final Fantasy Versus 13" for the PS3.

However, a new trailer or presentation may be released before the end of the year although Square-Enix has yet to give any announcement regarding their schedules and plans. It is speculated by fans that a teaser trailer will launch simultaneously with the release of "The Final Chapter Prologue" or when "Final Fantasy XV" launches in September.

"Kingdom Hearts 3" will conclude the series, officially pitting Sora, Donald, Goofy, Riku, Kairi and King Mickey in a fight against Xehanort. The game will finally explore the true nature of the titular Kingdom Hearts and is currently rumored to release for the PS4 in late 2017.
